"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies-in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
This past weekend, Meg and I went on our first medical mission trip as a couple. The Christian Medical Association, Baptist Student Ministry, and our Clear Creek Community Church small group combined efforts and saw over 150 patients in Piedras Negras, Mexico in just one and a half days! We had 12 medical students, 3 PT students, and 2 PA students, 2 nurses, 2 PT's and 2 MD's (Meg and I).
This is our entire CCCC small group: John (MSIII), Erika(PA-S), Elizabeth(RN), Rhonda(PT), Meg, Me.
John and Erika in the "pharmacy."
Meg checking for amblyopia. Philip, Will, and James interviewing a patient. (Actually, Will interviewed most of the patients since he was one of the only students that was fluent in Spanish...everyone else observed or spoke through him.)
Garret and Nic placing a plaster cast for a fractured hand.
Derek and Philip testing for peripheral neuropathy.
Garret and James taking out some stitches.
Primera Iglesia Bautista (First Baptist Church) in Piedras Negras set us up with families to stay with while we were there. We stayed with the Garcia family. They have three kids: Ferni, Viridiana, and Omar. Their parents were so proud that they were able to help translate with the English they were learning in school.
The family experience was one of the best parts of the trip. We got to share in their culture, eat homemade authentic Mexican food, and worship our Lord with fellow Christians.
