Ophtho Graduation

Meghan finally finished her Ophthalmology residency at UTMB on June 26. Both of our families came down to celebrate this victory with her.
Dina even came to support Meg by keeping the kids one last time. Dina was a life-saver for this journey!!
Meg with her parents.
Meg's biggest supporter :)

Our good friend Joy is a nurse in the Ophtho clinic in TDCJ. She came to give her support.
Here are two influential faculty members: Dr. Garvin Davis and Dr. Erik Van Kuijk
Two of Meghan's fellow resident colleagues: Ruben Ramirez and Jennifer Melton.
Even through all of the craziness of having a baby, training for and running a marathon, and Hurricane Ike, Meg was able to complete all of the required surgeries for residency and get certified in Lasik. She even won the Leadership award. Who knew I would marry a Super-Woman eye surgeon!

Congrats Babe!!

Galveston's Last Blog Entry

Well, the packers are coming tomorrow, so I thought I would get one last post from here. My parents came down tonight to help while the packers are here. We went to Yaga's one last time and had dinner with our good friend Tara. FBC Galveston had a praise and worship night at the Checkerboard, so we got to say goodbye to our FBC friends. The movers load up on Friday and Saturday. We will drive out on Sun. Here we come NC!!

Here are the Carnes. Jillian (applying for Med School next year!!), Meg, Me, Lisa, Rusty and Lori.

CCCC Small Group

Our CCCC Small Group gave us a fare-well party tonight. Today was our last Sunday at CCCC. So sad to leave such great relationships here in Galveston, but it has been a great experience living life with these guys over the last three years. We have made life-long friends and grown tremendously throuth these relationships.

Jason and Melissa Harper

My cousin Jason got married this past Saturday and came to Galveston for their Honeymoon. We felt so privileged that they wanted to hang with us old married folks for the day!! Congrats Jason and Melissa!!
Katelin trying out her photography skills...not bad for a 3 year-old!!

New House

Here are some pics of where we will be living in Durham. We will be about 5 minutes from Duke and 40 minutes from my work. It has 5 bedrooms, an office, and a huge play room...so plenty of room for you to visit!!

Wig

The other day, Dina was talking about her wig hair, so she brought a wig for Katelin to play with. She thought it was so fun, but couldn't figure out why the dummy didn't have eyes.

Potter visit

This past weekend, the Potter family came to visit. Steven, Brittany, Preston, and baby#2(!!) live in Arlington where Brittany is a Family Medicine resident and Steven works as an engineer for a flight simulation company. We have known the Potters since we lived in Galveston the first time. When we moved back, we jumped into their small group through Clear Creek Community Church. We don't get to see them too often, but when we do, it is just like old times and we pick up life just where we left off.

While in Galveston, we had a beautiful day for the beach. Galveston brought tons of new sand in for the beach after Ike and it was so soft and warm to the toes!! The kids had a blast. We then went to the Strand to eat at Yagas. Galveston had a "re-birth" party on the strand to celebrate Galveston coming back after the storm. We had a great time walking around down town seeing what has re-opened. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend!!

OK Steven...it's time for you to update your blog now...

Lake House Reunion

May 15-17th, our med-school accoutability group met up after 5 years apart. David Finklea had this great idea to get together before everyone got spread all over the country...literally. We rented a lake house on Cedar Creek and had a great time catching up...definitely going to be a tradition every couple of years. We haven't seen the Putmans in 5 years, but it was just like old times hanging out. Here are Chad and Jessica with their three kids: twins Taryn and Andrew and baby Seth. Chad and Jessica are moving to Tulsa for Chad to start work with an ENT group.
Newlyweds Bleu and Lacie: aka "Ken and Barbie" are moving to NY City for Bleu to do a Cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Cornell.
Bachelor Abe is going to Boston to do an ER radiology fellowship.
David and Michelle Finklea. David is going to Atlanta to do a Pulmonary Critical Care fellowship at Emory.
Chad is moving his family to LA to start an Ortho Sports Medicine fellowship.

And of course Meg and I will be moving to NC for Meg to start her Pediatric Ophthalmology fellowship with Duke in one month!!
The Hot tub was a great hang-out:
Katelin trying out the new goggles in the hot tub.
Rub-a-dub-dub...three men in a tub: Bleu, David, and Abe
Thanks to Chad for bringing the boat.
The kids had a great time hanging out together...all 7 of them!

Katelin and Taryn trying out the kid skis.
Maddox with a new style of shades!

The house had a great sand area that the kids had a blast in. (Abe and Chad had some fun building sandcastles too!)
Katelin, Tye, Taryn, and Andrew found a new way to play pool.
Katelin could not keep her ahnds off of the babies...here she is with Grayson Conner.
Rub-a-dub-dub...5 kids in a tub!!
Food!!! Catherine and Chad brought all of the food. Thanks a ton for the great meals!
We decided to have a mini-reception at the lake house for the newlyweds. Congrats Bleu and Lacie!! Sunday morning Chad and Abe put together a worship session and lesson. Church at its best.
Welcome to our new blog! We thought this would be a fun way to share our pictures and lives with family and friends. Thanks for visiting. Enjoy!
Katelin celebrated her first birthday at her grandparents' house in Round Rock. We grilled hamburgers and had cake and homemade ice cream.

Katelin's one! (April 2007)
We went to the Grand Canyon for our vacation this year. We stayed in Sedona, Arizona. The mule ride was great fun! We suggest everyone seeing the Grand Canyon at least once in a lifetime.
