Christ's Day

It still amazes me that we celebrate Christmas with such craziness... we get presents when it is Christ's day.  The kids got 3 main presents from us (if 3 presents are good enough for Jesus on his birthday, then it should be good enough for our family!!)

 

 

 

 The kids went shopping with us for each other and bought with their own money what they thought their sibs would like.  Katelin got Tye a fire engine (he always says he wants to be a fireman race car driver...).  She got Jax a garbage truck (he loves to watch the trash truck pick up the garbage at our house.   The first thing Jax did was put some wrapping paper trash in the back of the garbage truck!!  Clever boy....   

 Katelin also bought Granddad some camo slippers and Nana some cozy socks.

 

Tye bought Jax a motorcycle track.

 Nana bought Katelin an tooth fairy pillow and she actually lost a tooth on Christmas day to put in the pillow!!

 

We got Katelin and Tye big kid bikes.  They had to go on a scavenger hunt through the house, outside, upstairs, and down to the basement to find them.

 Jax got a train table.

 Nana and Granddad gave the kids a driver's license for their very own Jeep, just like Granddad's!!  The license comes complete with a set of driving rules.

Christmas Eve

Christmas eve we went to a candlelight service and came home to read the Christmas story from Luke 2.  The kids get to open one present...this year: PJ's!!

The Birth of Jesus Christ

2 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. ² This was the first registration when^[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria. ³ And all went to be registered, each to his own town. ⁴ And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, ⁵ to be registered with Mary, his betrothed,^[b] who was with child. ⁶ And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. ⁷ And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

The Shepherds and the Angels

⁸ And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. ⁹ And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. ¹⁰ And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. ¹¹ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. ¹² And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” ¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

¹⁴ “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”^[c]

¹⁵ When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” ¹⁶ And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. ¹⁷ And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. ¹⁸ And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. ¹⁹ But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. ²⁰ And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

Opryland

Nana and Granddad joined us for an evening at Opryland.  The kids loved all of the lights.

I had a great time helping out with Katelin's Christmas party.  She was proud to have me there.

Galveston Memories

We visited Galveston while in town for Tara's wedding and got to some old friends

 This was our historic 1894 house on 1928 Ave M we lived in during Meghan's Ophtho residency.  I planted the palm tree when it was just a baby!!  We brought Tye home to this house.

 This was our house in Fish Village where I lived in med school and residency.  118 Whiting was Meg's and my first house together.  I planted those palm trees when they were little twigs.  Can't believe how big they are now!!

 The pier where the Flagship Hotel once was is now Galveston's "Pleasure Pier"

 We got to have cookies with our dear friend Frances Dunham from First Baptist Galveston.  Meg and I used to go over about every month and play 42 with her and her husband Herb.

 I cannot believe the Original is still in business after we moved!!  We ate there at least once a week.  Still great Tex-Mex.



Tara Cooper

Tara Shipp was a good friend of mine in PT school when I was in med school.  She got married Dec 16 in Houston.  We got to see some long time friends from our time in Galveston

 Carrie Henderson Hogue was one of Tara's classmates in PT school.  Her daughter was 8 the last time we saw her at our wedding.  Kylie (far right) is now in college and Ashton is not a baby any more!

 Allison was another of Tara's PT classmates that we got to know well in Galveston.  We would go over to Shane and Allison's house and watch "Amazing Race."
